That’s an aftermarket exhaust that I dun gone and put on all by myself. It was fun. Now I have no more money for fun stuff, but my car goes BW AH instead of brrm when it accelerates so I'm happy.

Is it a full system or just a cat back?
How’s it sound?

Does it drone at highway speeds?
Also, I appreciate the rephrasing of “Now I have no more money for fun stuff” as opposed to “ I’m broke.”

I recommend an intake next. My Mini has a cheapo cone filter "cold" air intake on it and it makes wonderful growly noises when you accelerate.

No way is there an actual audible difference? I m
ight try that on my old Twingo...

no-money you have now

Yup. There are 3 places you engine makes noise. Sucking the air in, blowing the air out, and the mechanical clanging in the middle. The sound of the air going out can be changed with an exhaust, the sound of the air going in can be changed with an intake, and there's not much you can do about the mechanical clanging in the middle.

That’s where you’re wrong! Watch what happens when you lose oil pressure!

Here for an answer too. Shopping around for a good piece to put on the back of the van with a 4 banger .

Any 4 cyl I’ve owned has always droned at highway speeds regardless of what exhaust system I put on it.
The closest I ever got to a non-droning exhaust was on my Eclipse. It was running 2.5" from the header back, with a 2.5" resonator mounted mid pipe, and a GReddy Evolution muffler. That had a very nice aggressive tone, while being very mild cruising.

Find a decent one at a garage sale then s end me an invoice

I don’t mind the drone; it’s a part work commuter, part rallycross racer. Forums have said a series 10 F lowmaster produced a decent tone , but that was for the ecoboost 4, and nobody shared a sample sound. IIRC, the stock diameter is 2.25, so I might just keep the diameter, delete the resonator, and clamp a series 10 whenever I decide to purchase one.

Drone/loud exhaust never used to bother me until the last couple years. Now drone drives me insane, but I still enjoy a good exhaust note.
Just a word of advice, try just adding a different muffler before deleting the resonator. I’ve found a lot of vehicles sound like complete dog shit without a resonator.

That's not the engine though.

Noted. Ill put my angle grinder down for now.

Or remove the muffler and leave the resonator, that sometimes works well.
![]() 07/12/2019 at 19:42 |

Neither, sadly. Just the muffler, or axle-back as they like to call it. So truly negligible performance gains (I’d guess that I gained 3 worm power) , but it allows for a bit more sound.
W hich brings me to the second question. It sounds pretty good! There’s a definite drone, but it’s fun to accelerate. It's hard to describe the sound, but I'll get a video of a start-up soon.

I'm strongly considering it, especially if I find another lightly used thing. At this point, I just want to make people do a double-take when it's a Kia Soul making that noise.
![]() 07/12/2019 at 19:48 |

A little, but not terribly. One of the biggest complaints for the Soul is engine noise, which I honestly never really noticed until I put this on. So maybe I just don’t really care.
Also, yeah, I realized I should be more clear, especially with my friend being in and out of the hospital. I’m helping her out as much as I reasonably can. This was just a fun little thing to spoil myself.

That’s what I have now, and it just sounds like I have a muffler going bad. It sounds accidental vs. intentional. That’s why I am thinking no resonator and a decent muffler might work, but I’ll try with a resonator first before I start cutting things.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 11:58 |

I’m assuming you’re going to leave the Cat in place?
If so, you’ll probably be fine with removing the resonator and adding a good muffler.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 12:01 |

Yup, I don’t want to start messing with O2 sensors and trying to run without a CEL. I’m thinking re sonator delete with a deese muffler will work.
